July 30, 2021 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
St. Cloud Rox News Release
St. Cloud, MN - After last night's nail-biting victory, St. Cloud (41-13) left no doubt with a 10-1 win to wrap up the sweep of Eau Claire (22-32).
With two weeks remaining in the Northwoods League season, St. Cloud maintained its four-and-a-half game advantage over Mankato for the best record across the lead. For the full Northwoods League standings, click here.
Jordan Barth (Augustana) and Jack Steil (Nebraska) continued to make local Rocori High School proud with six RBI's between them. The duo helped the Rox pull away in the fourth inning with Barth's two-RBI double and Steil's third home run of the week that made it 7-1.
Otto Kemp (Point Loma Nazarene) had a big day as well to help the Rox get on top early. Kemp had two hits, including a triple off the right-field wall that started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning.
After Trevor Koenig (St. Cloud State) threw three solid innings to start the game, Zach Gagnon (Tarleton State) took over on the mound in long relief. Gagnon worked out of several jams and tallied four scoreless frames on the mound that allowed the Rox to stretch out their lead.
Late in the game, Nick Penick (St. John's University) tossed a scoreless eighth inning in his second appearance of the season. Then, Nate Peterson (Illinois-Chicago) finished off the game in the ninth.
The Rox finish off the three-game homestand with the series opener against Rochester on Saturday evening. St. Cloud will head out on the road for a week after Saturday's 6:05 pm game against the Honkers.
