Brockton Rox News Release

Brockton, MA (July 9, 2008) - The Brockton Rox drew a pair of bases-loaded walks in the top of the tenth inning to take a 3-1 victory from the New Jersey Jackals on Wednesday afternoon. LHP Rolando Viera pitched eight strong innings, but did not figure in the decision after he departed in a 1-1 tie.

Viera was seeking his 22nd career win in a Rox uniform; a mark which would set him up as the franchise leader in wins. He was pulled after allowing one run on seven hits and three walks in eight innings. He pitched out of a bases-loaded jam with one out in the eighth, inducing a double play off the bat of Jackals' DH Luke Allen.

Viera allowed the lone Jackals' run in the second inning on an RBI double by LF Andrew Larsen. He then held New Jersey to four hits over his last six innings of work.

The Rox offense did not score against Jackals' starter RHP Tom Atlee who struck out five and allowed seven hits over seven innings of work. After Atlee was lifted for the eighth inning, RHP Justin Barnes allowed the first Rox run of the game on an RBI single by 3B Phillip Cuadrado.

The Rox bullpen pitched two scoreless innings led by RHP Matt Zachary who picked up his first win of the season with a scoreless ninth inning. RHP Jerry Dunn recorded his 11th save of the year with two strikeouts in the tenth inning.

The Rox and Jackals play again on Thursday night at Yogi Berra Stadium with a first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM. Rox RHP Wayne Lundgren (3-2, 4.45 ERA) will face New Jersey RHP Aaron Tressler (1-4, 5.96 ERA.
