Atlantic City Surf News Release

Ottawa, ON- Three errors and eight stranded baserunners were enough to end a two-game winning streak for the Atlantic City Surf in a 3-2 loss to the Ottawa Rapidz in front of 1681 fans Wednesday night at Rapidz Stadium.

Surf starter Brian Rodaway went eight innings and allowed three runs, just two of them earned while walking only one and striking out 8. The Atlantic City defense would spoil a good outing from its starter. Two errors in the bottom of the fourth on Atlantic City's Anthony Granato and Josh Burrus resulted in the eventual game-winning run.

Ottawa jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the first couple of innings, pushing across a run in the first and one in the second on an RBI double from Jeremy Milons (first inning) and an RBI single from Jose De Los Santos.

The Surf struck back in the top of the 3rd. First baseman Eddie Kim led off with a single. After a Gil Zayas strikeout, Atlantic City second baseman Brad Thoma's single off Ottawa starter Mike Kusiewicz moved Kim to second. An Anthony Granato ground out put Kim to third and Thoma to second and set the stage for a Billy Kovatch two-run single down the left field line. Those would be the only two runs the Surf would manage all night. Atlantic City stranded eight baserunners in its nine trips to the plate.

The go-ahead and eventual game-winning run came in Ottawa's bottom half of the fourth. Greg Dumouchel started it with a single. Scotty McKnight followed with a strikeout. The Rapidz Juan Infante then hit a ground ball that looked like an eventual double play but an errant throw from AC's Anthony Granato sent Infante to second. Jose De Los Santos then hit a routine fly ball down the rightfield line that was dropped by Atlantic City's Josh Burrus. Infante scored and De Los Santos tried to stretch to second but was thrown out to end the inning.

Rodaway (4-4) took the loss for the Surf. The lefthander has now dropped back to back starts for Atlantic City. Southpaw Mike Kusiewicz picked up the win with six and a third strong innings of two run, eight hit ball. Kusiewicz struck out four and walked just two.

Gil Zayas and William Plaza each finished 2-for-4 to lead the Surf offense. Jose De Los Santos added a 2-for-4 night with a run and an RBI to pace Ottawa.

The Surf and Rapidz play game two of their four game set tomorrow night. Atlantic City's J.C. Huguet (5-1) takes the bump for the Surf. Ottawa's starter is TBA.
