Rapidz take second straight

(OTTAWA, ON) July 9, 2008 - The all-you-can-eat lobster dinner tasted extra good for fans as the Ottawa Rapidz extended their winning streak to a season high two games by defeating manager Cecil Fielder and the Atlantic City Surf Wednesday night 3-2.

The Rapidz began the game with a run, as Jose de los Santos extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a triple. Jereme Milons followed with an RBI double to score de los Santos for a 1-0 Rapidz lead.

Continuing their hitting into second inning, both Nate Hall and Greg Dumouchel got aboard to lead off the inning. Hall then scored on Jose de los Santos' 199th career RBI giving the Rapidz a 2-0 lead.

The Surf responded in the top of the third, tying the score at two. Eddie Kim and Brad Thoma both singled, advanced a base and then scored on a single by Billy Kovatch to tie the game at two.

The Rapidz regained their lead in the bottom of the fourth taking a 3-2 lead as Juan Infante reached second on an error and then came home to score on an error charged to Surf right fielder Josh Burrus.

Mike Kusiewicz (2-5) pitched masterfully for the Rapidz in the win, going 6.1 innings allowing two runs (both earned) on eight hits, with two walks and striking out four. For the Surf, Brian Rodaway (4-4) was credited with the loss going 8.0 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on nine hits, with one walk and eight strikeouts. Cardoza Tucker picked up his second consecutive save and second of the season for the Rapidz in the win, in front of 1,681 cheering fans at Rapidz Stadium.

Before the game, the Rapidz made some roster changes releasing pitchers Dallas Strankman and Joe Wilson while acquiring left handed pitcher Reid Price. The 25 year-old, who pitched in 2008 for the Southern Illinois Miners of the Frontier League, posted a record of 2-2 with a 4.72 ERA in seven games. The Fletcher, North Carolina native pitched in 2006 for the Sussex Skyhawks (CAN-AM League) and in 2007 for the Aiken Foxhounds (South Coast League) had a combined record of 5-5 and a 4.30 ERA in 27 games. The 6'3", and 190-pound athlete throws and bats left.

The Rapidz look to extend their winning streak to three games Thursday, July 10th at 7:05pm as the Rapidz and Surf play the second game of their four game series. North Gower native Fraser Robinson (2-3, 4.17 ERA) will pitch for the Rapidz against J.C. Huguet (5-1, 3.88 ERA) for the Surf.

The Rapidz have the second series of their home stand beginning Sundy, July 13 at 1:05pm against their national rivals the Quebec Capitales. Sunday will be "Expo Day" at Rapidz Stadium where former Expo greats Jim Fanning, Claude Raymond and Warren Cromartie will be in attendance along with long-time Expo's announcer Jacques Doucet.
