
Ottawa Voyageurs Sign Local Pitcher Fraser Robinson

Ottawa - The Ottawa Voyageurs announced today that they signed left-handed pitcher Fraser Robinson to a contract for the upcoming season. Fraser will join his father Barry, general manager of the Voyageurs.
The 23 year-old North Gower, ON native played last year with the Ottawa Rapidz, after being acquired from the New York State League. As per Can-Am League rules, the 6'5", 230-pound starter will still have the status of rookie in 2009.
In is first professional baseball season, Robinson posted a record of four wins and eight losses in 19 games. He displayed a 5.06 ERA in 121 innings, while allowing only 16 walks, tied for the second lowest total amongst starters in the Can-Am League. He allowed one walk or less in 17 of his 19 starts. From July 20 to August 16 (six starts) Robinson established a franchise record, not issuing a walk in 35.1 innings.
He struck out a team-high 90 batters, giving him a strikeout-to-walk (K/BB) ratio of 5.62, the third best amongst league's pitchers. His first win came on June 11, a 5-4 victory against the Rox in Brockton.
Ottawa will open its 2009 regular season at home on Thursday, May 28 against the New Jersey Jackals for a four-game series, before hosting the Atlantic City Surf for three games to complete their initial seven-game homestand.
