Catcher Kevin Butler Returns to the Voyageurs

Ottawa - The Ottawa Voyageurs announced today that they signed catcher Kevin Butler to a contract for the 2009 season. Butler came to Ottawa as a free agent on August 5, 2008.

In four games with Ottawa last year he displayed a .455 batting average. In 11 at-bats, he had five hits, along with one RBI. Since his professional debut in 2006, he has appeared in 56 games, collecting 32 hits in 136 at-bats for a .235 batting average. He has compiled five doubles, 13 runs and 11 RBI.

Butler, 25, is a Rock Hill, SC native. The 6-foot, 200-pound backup catcher bats and throws right.

Butler was signed as a non drafted free agent by the Washington Wild Things (Frontier League) in 2006. He then played for the Chillicothe Paints (Frontier League) in 2007 and 2008, until being released on July 31.

The Voyageurs now have eight players under contract for the upcoming season: 3B Trino Aguilar, RHP Noel Baca III, 1B Jabe Bergeron, C Kevin Butler, INF Nate Hall, CF Jared Lemieux, LHP Fraser Robinson and OF Jeff Thomas.

Ottawa will open its 2009 regular season at home on Thursday, May 28 against the New Jersey Jackals for a four-game series, before hosting the Atlantic City Surf for three games to complete their initial seven-game homestand.
