
Ottawa Voyageurs Add Trino Aguilar To Their Roster

Ottawa - The Ottawa Voyageurs announced today that they signed third baseman Trino Aguilar to a contract for the 2009 season. Aguilar was acquired by the Voyageurs from the Winnipeg Goldeyes (Northern League) on Jan. 15 for a player to be named later.
The 27 year-old, Guarico, Venezuela native comes to Ottawa with eight seasons of professional baseball experience. The 5-10, 190-pound veteran bats and throws right.
Aguilar displayed a .265 batting average in 22 games with Winnipeg last year. In 83 at-bats, he had 22 hits, including seven doubles and three homeruns, along with 14 RBI.
Since his professional debut in 2001, he has appeared in 527 games, collecting 565 hits in 1,941 at-bats for a .291 batting average. He has compiled 102 doubles, 17 triples and 56 homeruns, along with 286 runs and 287 RBI. He has also stolen 70 bases.
With Pensacola in 2007, he finished the season tied for first in the American Association in homeruns (16), adding 47 RBI and 23 stolen bases.
Aguilar was signed as a non drafted free agent by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2001. He played three seasons in the Phillies organization before being traded to the San Diego Padres in March 2004. The Padres released him in Nov. 2004. He then joined Pensacola for three seasons before becoming a member of the Goldeyes.
The Voyageurs now have seven players under contract for the upcoming season: 3B Trino Aguilar, RHP Noel Baca III, 1B Jabe Bergeron, INF Nate Hall, CF Jared Lemieux, LHP Fraser Robinson and OF Jeff Thomas.
Ottawa will open its 2009 regular season at home on Thursday, May 28 against the New Jersey Jackals for a four-game series, before hosting the Atlantic City Surf for three games to complete their initial seven-game homestand.
