Voyageurs Claim T.J. Stanton and Jeremy Pickrel off Waivers

Ottawa - The Ottawa Voyageurs announced today that they acquired the rights on right-handed pitcher T. J. Stanton as well as on outfielder Jeremy Pickrel. Both players were claimed off waivers from Quebec City and New Hampshire (formerly Nashua) respectively.

Stanton, 27, is a Palatka, Fla. native. In 22 games with the Capitales last season, he had a 3.90 ERA in 92.1 innings. He allowed 87 hits, 33 walks and struck out 79 batters. The six-foot-four, 230-pound pitcher throws right and bats left.

In 61 games with New Hampshire last season, Pickrel, 25, displayed a .265 batting average, collecting 52 hits in 196 at-bats. He had 17 doubles, one triple and 10 homeruns, scored 38 runs and added 30 RBI, while stealing 10 bases. The six-foot-four, 225-pound outfielder is a Galesburg, Ill. native. He bats left and throws right.

The Voyageurs have eight players under contract for the upcoming season: 3B Trino Aguilar, RHP Noel Baca III, 1B Jabe Bergeron, C Kevin Butler, INF Nate Hall, CF Jared Lemieux, LHP Fraser Robinson and OF Jeff Thomas.

Ottawa will open its 2009 regular season at home on Thursday, May 28 against the New Jersey Jackals for a four-game series, before hosting the Atlantic City Surf for three games to complete their initial seven-game homestand.
