
Skyhawks pitching fails them in loss

AUGUSTA, N.J. - Quebec scored four runs in the top of the sixth en route to a 9-5 win over the Sussex Skyhawks on Wednesday night at Skylands Park.
Quebec reliever Mark James (3-0) picked up the win after throwing a scoreless 2.2 innings. James walked one and struck out four to grab his third win of the season. Sussex starter Kyle Ruwe (7-2) gave up eight runs on 11 hits in 5.2 innings to take the loss.
Quebec broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the sixth inning when Jean-Michel Salvas grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Greg Stevens to make it 5-4. Josh Colafemina then lofted a sacrifice fly to center scoring Jose Contreras, giving Quebec a 6-4 lead. Patrick Deschenes then lined a two-run double into the gap in right centerfield, making it 8-4. Quebec added another run in the top of the seventh.
Quebec jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run home run by Eddie Lantigua, his fourth of the season.
With Quebec up 3-0, Ron Perodin led off the bottom of the third with a double to right. Jorge Moreno then cracked a two run home run to straight away center to cut the Quebec lead to 3-2.
Quebec added a run in the top of the fourth when Contreras grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Alex Nunez to make it 4-2.
Sussex tied it 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth on a Yohanny Valera double down the left field line, which scored Alex Frazier and Matt Weston.
Valera was two for five with three RBI in the losing effort for Sussex.
Quebec and Sussex return to action at Skylands Park on Thursday at 7 p.m. for the second game of the four game series.
