Atlantic City Surf News Release
Atlantic City, NJ (December 1, 2008) - Just in time for the holiday shopping season, former New York Yankee slugger and Atlantic City Surf Manager Cecil Fielder is hosting an event to give sports fans the opportunity to own an actual piece of the Atlantic City Surf. Fielder, along with iTeam Sports, will launch the sale of team shares during the first 'Own a piece of the Surf' event from noon to 2 p.m. on December 6 at BC Sports in the Hamilton Mall in Mays Landing.
"I can't think of a more perfect holiday gift for the true sports fan, and something that makes the team a real part of the community and vice versa," said Cecil Fielder. A fan favorite, Fielder is returning for his second year as manager of the Surf. "I'm excited about getting to know the fans better and giving share owners an insider's view of the real world of baseball. This is just what baseball needs to bring fans closer to the game than ever before, and do it at an affordable price."
Through iTeam Sports, fans are able to own a share of the Surf for only $150 and gain unprecedented access to the players, coaches and team operations. An upfront portion from the sale of each share will benefit the Surf's chosen charity, Autism Speaks. Along with the Surf, sports fans can also buy ownership shares in the El Paso Diablos and the Grand Prairie AirHogs. iTeam Sports will be adding a long list of additional sports teams to its roster. As a non-profit, iTeam Sports is currently in negotiations with NASCAR teams and other professional sports including lacrosse, soccer, football, hockey and a host of other sports teams and leagues.
"Just as very few people in the world have the ability to personally purchase and manage a multi-billion dollar company like Walmart, most people can at least afford to buy a share of it, with owner input through voting," said iTeam Sports Founder/President, Steve Levenson, a financial securities and real estate development expert. "iTeam Sports does a similar thing, except with pro sports teams."
iTeam Sports will give Surf owners the opportunity to experience unique participation, in part through exclusive owners input surveys conducted via a dedicated online polling system, plus:
Unprecedented access to players and coaches
Use of an extensive owners-only online community
Special owner discounts
Invitation to owners-only special events
Behind-the-scenes look at team operations
Each owner also receives an official Surf team hat (as worn by players), and a wide array of iTeam Sports merchandise, including an iTeam Sports owner hat, official certificate of ownership, t-shirt, mug, owner ID card with lanyard.
The power of pooling small investments of money allows iTeam Sports to accomplish three goals:
Give sports fans actual, affordable ownership of professional sports teams.
Provide charities with guaranteed upfront money - plus all of iTeam Sports shareowners' profit (based on a team's profitability and the percentage of fans ownership of a team). The Surf selected Autism Speaks as its local charity.
Build a larger, more loyal fan base that eliminates geographic boundaries.
"The Surf is committed to providing area families with exciting, affordable entertainment," said Chris Carminucci, president of the Surf. "iTeam Sports now allows sports fans the ability to own a real part of our team. We're excited about bringing fans closer to the team and players, while assisting a worthwhile charity in our own community."
