Atlantic City Surf News Release
Bridgewater, N.J. - SS Anthony Granato, who was traded from the Surf to the Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League at the conclusion of Atlantic City's season, had a superb first day with the Patriots on Saturday. In a doubleheader against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, the Can-Am League's all-star shortstop combined to go 5-for-5 with two doubles, a run scored, a walk and an RBI as the Patriots split the twinbill, winning the first game, 2-0, before dropping the second, 5-3.
Two other 2008 Surf players have recently seen action in the Atlantic League, whose regular season does not end until September 21. LF Joe Burke started in the second Somerset-Southern Maryland game on Saturday, going 0-for-2. Meanwhile, reliever Tony Pierce pitched two hitless innings of relief for the Long Island (Central Islip, N.Y.) Ducks in the second game of the club's doubleheader on Saturday against York, striking out three.
