St. Cloud Rox News Release
Rochester, MN - Heading back on the road after seven straight home games, St. Cloud (9-6) took care of Rochester (5-8) with an 8-3 win at Mayo Field.
Andrew Pinckney (Alabama) started the scoring in the second with a three-run home run to right field. Pinckney's first home run of the season gave the Rox the lead and they never looked back on Thursday night in Rochester.
The Rox also got a solo shot from Tyson Fisher (Dixie State), his fourth home run of the season. Fisher ripped a line drive over the center-field fence to extend the Rox lead to 4-0 in the third inning.
After Rochester tightened things up with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, the Rox answered in the seventh with three of their own. St. Cloud pushed all three runs across the plate without recording a hit and stretched the lead out to 7-3.
Jack Winkler (San Francisco) was swinging the bat well on Thursday night as well. Winkler had two doubles, including one to left-center field that hit high off the wall, almost leaving the yard.
Pinckney added an insurance run in the ninth as he showed off his speed, going all the way around the bases. The Rox' centerfielder reached on a throwing error and took advantage of another to extend the lead to 8-3.
Johnny Dow (Georgia State) started his third game of the season and dominated for most of his outing. He struck out eight Rochester batters and at one point retired ten Honkers in a row. Dow allowed three runs and earned his first win of the season.
From the bullpen, Riley Cornelio (TCU) and Noah Myhre (Minot State) each threw two shutout innings as the Rox closed out the win. Cornelio worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth, keeping St. Cloud in the lead. Myhre has now worked seven scoreless innings this season and struck out four tonight.
