June 18, 2021 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release
Traverse City, MI - Pitching was dominant for the (12-5) Traverse City Pit Spitters from start to finish as four pitchers combined to shutout the (7-10) Battle Creek Bombers 3-0 and complete the sweep.
Jesse Heikkinen (1-0, 2.92) picked up his first win of the season, surrendering just four hits across six strong innings. Heikkinen pitched his longest outing of the season and collected a season high in strikeouts.
Cam Schuelke and John Beuckelaere each received a hold in one inning of relief. Both faced four batters and struck out one. Evan Gates gave up two runners in the ninth but struck out the last two he faced to record the save (3).
Adam Proctor and Tito Flores got the scoring started in the third. Proctor led off with a single and moved to third on a Camden Traficante base hit. Tito Flores hit him home with a sacrifice fly, his second game in a row with an RBI.
Two more runs scored in the sixth on defensive mistakes. Michael Stygles walked, and Jake Arnold reached on a two-out error. Another error was committed on Traficante's grounder, allowing both runners to score. The 3-0 lead would be all the bullpen needed.
