Huskies Hang on to Even Series

Duluth Huskies News Release

Waterloo, Iowa - After back-to-back hits to begin the ninth the Duluth Huskies closer Nate Wohlgemuth found his rhythm, as the righty out of Arkansas was able to keep the Waterloo Bucks at bay to even the two-game set with a 5-4 victory.

The Huskies' starting thrower today massively impressed in his debut. Ronnie Voacolo, from Southeastern University, ran through the Bucks lineup without issue through five innings after hitting a batter back in the first. The sixth inning brought some trouble for Voacolo, as the Bucks scratched two runs across. His stat line consisted of six innings pitched, four hits, two runs, two base on balls, and three strikeouts. Impressing with the fastball, which painted the corners all evening and the untouchable slurve, Voacolo earned the win in his first Huskies' outing. He'll look to help solidify Duluth's starting rotation alongside Ben Pedersen, Will McEntire, Johnny Guzman, and the injured Tony Cortez.

As for the offense, The Huskies were able to get production from their bottom of the lineup once again. Xavier Carter, Cason Tollet, and Brett Paulson combined to go six for nine with an RBI. Paulson had the lone RBI with a sacrifice-bunt in the bottom of the fourth to score Carter. Blayne Robinson got the scoring going early for the Huskies, crushing a two RBI double into left center field to put Duluth on top 2-0 in the first inning. RBI's also came from right fielder Jesse Pierce and third baseman Mike Boeve. Pierce nudged an RBI infield single in the fifth, while Boeve scored the last run of the night for the Huskies on a sacrifice-fly ball to right field.

Duluth now moves on to their second series of the road trip tomorrow night when they face the La Crosse Loggers for the second time this year. The Huskies are 1-1 against the Loggers on the campaign, while La Crosse is currently second in the Great Plains East division at 10-8.
