Rookie Defenseman Brown Recalled to IceCaps
February 23, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Brampton Beast News Release
BRAMPTON, ON - The Brampton Beast, ECHL affiliate of the St. John's IceCaps and the Montreal Canadiens, announce today that defenseman Travis Brown has been recalled to the St. John's IceCaps of the American Hockey League.
The 21-year-old rookie defenseman has been the steadiest member of the Beast blue line thus far in the 2015-16 season and is the only member of the squad to have suited up for all 51 contests to date.
Since starting his professional career with the Beast in October, Brown has racked up 20 points, including seven goals and 13 assists, good for a share of the best rookie stats on the Beast.
The Winnipeg, Manitoba native was drafted 129th overall in the Fifth Round of the 2012 NHL Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks.
Prior to starting his professional career in the ECHL earlier this season, the 179-pound defenseman was a mainstay with the Moose Jaw Warriors and Victoria Royals in the Western Hockey League for five seasons.
In the 2014-2015 season while wearing the Assistant Captain's 'A' on his chest for the Victoria Royals, he ranked sixth in points among WHL defensemen, recording 57 points, including 18 goals, in 71 games.
The Beast are back in action this Friday, February 26, as they head to the Huntington Center to face their North Division rivals, the Toledo Walleye, at 7:15 PM. The Beast then return home on Sunday, February 28 as they host the Greenville Swamp Rabbits for the first time ever at 2:00 PM. Single game tickets are now available, starting at $16.25. For more information or general media inquiries on the Brampton Beast please contact Chris Ballard, Public Relations Coordinator at (905) 564-1684 or cballard@bramptonbeast.com.
