Toledo's Berschbach Named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Shane Berschbach of the Toledo Walleye is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Feb. 15-21. It is the second time this season that he has received the weekly honor in addition to being the ECHL?Player of the Month in January .

Berschbach scored five goals and added four assists for nine points in four games last week.

The 24-year-old picked up a pair of assists in a 4-3 win against Colorado on?Wednesday, scored two goals in a 5-2 loss at Fort Wayne on Friday, had two goals and an assist in a 4-3 victory over the Komets on?Saturday and added a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win against Kalamazoo on Sunday.

A native of Clawson, Mich., Berschbach is tied for fifth in the ECHL?with 51 points (20g-31a) in 44 games this season.

Berschbach has totaled 116 points (36g-80a) in 112 career ECHL games with?Toledo and Kalamazoo. He has also seen action in five games with Grand Rapids of the American?Hockey League.

Prior to turning pro,?Berschbach played four seasons at Western Michigan University where he had 117 points (39g-156a) in 146 career games.

On behalf of Shane Berschbach , a case of pucks will be donated to a Toledo youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey , the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 33,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
