Berschbach Named Player of Week

(Toledo, OH) - Forward Shane Berschbach has been named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for the week of February 15-21.

It's the second time this season that he has won the weekly award (January 4-10) to go along with being the Player of the Month for January.

Berschbach totaled nine points this past week scoring five goals with four assists. He started the week with a pair of assists in the Walleye 4-3 win over Colorado on Wednesday. Friday night started his run of goals with a pair at Fort Wayne. Berschbach netted two more goals (with one assist) including the game-winner on Saturday night during Toledo's come from behind 4-3 win over Fort Wayne. The week finished with a power play goal and an assist in Sunday's 2-0 win over Kalamazoo.

The native of Clawson, Michigan is having a special season leading the Walleye in points with 51 (20G, 31A) in just 44 games. He ranks fifth among all ECHL players in points. His 20 goals has already set a career high. Berschbach has appeared in 112 games at the ECHL level with 116 points (36G, 80A).

Berschbach spent the majority of last season in Toledo setting a new single season Walleye record with 48 assists. He also added 15 goals for a total of 63 points in 65 games during the 2014-15 season, which was second on the team in scoring. In 21 playoff contests, Berschbach led the Walleye in scoring with 25 points (8G, 17A). He also appeared in five games with Grand Rapids in the AHL with no points.

The 24-year-old spent four years at Western Michigan University prior to turning professional. As a Bronco, Berschbach posted 39 goals and 78 assists as was a plus 27 in 146 games. He set career highs as a senior with 16 goals, 22 assists and 38 points. In 2012, he helped Western Michigan to a CCHA Tournament Championship.

On behalf of Shane Berschbach, a case of pucks will be donated to a Toledo youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 33,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
