Raptors 905 forward Ronald Roberts Jr. recorded a game-high 18 rebounds along with a team-high 19 points to lead his club to a 98-94 win over the Iowa Energy Monday night at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.
Raptors 905 went on a 12-0 run late in the first quarter - taking a lead it never relinquished with two minutes to go to in the opening period - to jump ahead by six points heading into the second. The Mississauga club one-upped itself in the second frame, finishing the quarter on a 13-0 run to gain a 58-44 advantage at halftime. Roberts Jr. led Raptors 905 with 14 points at the half, while Joel Wright and James Ennis led Iowa with nine points apiece at the break.
The Energy came out strong to start the third quarter, working the deficit down to seven points, but Raptors 905 once again ended the period on fire with a 12-2 run in the final four-and-a-half minutes to push its lead to 17 points, 80-63, heading into the fourth quarter. Iowa outscored Raptors 905 31-18 in the final period in a legitimate comeback attempt, but the Mississauga club held on for the victory.
Along with Roberts Jr.'s 19 points, Raptors 905 was led offensively by Scott Suggs (18), Delon Wright (17), Anthony Bennett (12) and Axel Toupane (10). The Energy had double-digit point totals from Ennis (game-high 21), Joel Wright (17), Lazeric Jones (15), Andrew Harrison (15), Alex Stepheson (13) and Terry Whisnant (11). Delon Wright and Harrison shared the game high in assists with eight each.
Raptors 905 led Iowa in field goal percentage (41.6-38.2), three-point percentage (30.4-29.2), and second-chance points (14-13), while the Energy held the advantage in free throw percentage (76.0-73.9), points in the paint (52-50) and fast-break points (19-12).
Raptors 905 is back in action Thursday, January 21 when the club visits the Erie BayHawks at 7 p.m. ET.
