Asheville Tourists News Release

The Tourists road trip began with a rocky start Tuesday night as they lost to the Lakewood BlueClaws 10-9. In Asheville's first trip to First Energy Park since 2007, the game went back and forth until the home team rallied late for a one-run win.

Lakewood jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three. The BlueClaws plated two in the first and two more in the third. The Tourists fought back scoring the game's next five runs.

Asheville received a two-run Home Run from Harold Riggins in the fourth and an RBI groundout in the fifth. Same Mende also delivered an RBI single in the fifth. With the game knotted at four, Jose Rivera came through on an infield single in the sixth, scoring Jared Simon.

The Tourists worked out of a bases loaded, no outs jam in the bottom of the fifth, but the BlueClaws recaptured the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Lakewood rallied to score four runs, all with two outs, and took an 8-5 lead to the seventh inning.

The Tourists responded again by loading the bases and with one out. Simon came to the plate and put Asheville ahead 9-8 with just one swing of the bat. The Grand Slam was the Tourists third of the season.

Russell Brewer pitched a scoreless seventh for the Tourists, but Lakewood rallied in the bottom of the eighth, again with two outs. Brian Pointer singled in the tying run from third and then he scored on Maikel Franco's triple to right-center, giving the BlueClaws a 10-9 lead. The Tourists went down in order in the ninth.

Franco finished 3-for-5 for Lakewood with a Home Run and a triple. The BlueClaws also received a three-hit game from Gustavo Gonzalez. Pointer reached base four times and Carlos Perdomo went 2-fo-3 with a Home Run and a double.

Asheville received a four-hit performance from Sam Mende (4-for-5) which included two doubles. Delta Cleary Jr., Will Swanner, Jose Rivera, and Simon all chipped in two hits for the T's.
