RiverDogs Win 4-1 for Their 9th Straight Victory

LEXINGTON, KY - The Charleston RiverDogs (14-3) continued their torrid start to 2012 with a 4-1 winover the Lexington Legends (8-11) on Tuesday. The win is the ninth in a row for Charleston, and snaps a four game win streak for Lexington. Charleston remains in first place in the South Atlantic League Southern Division by 2.5 games over second place Asheville.

Lexington got to RiverDogs starter Caleb Cotham early with one run in the first, but Charleston bounced right back scoring three times in the second inning to take a 3-1 lead and never looked back. Cotham allowed only one run on four hits in five innings en route to his second win of the year moving to 2-0. Lexington's starter Nick Tropeano lasted only two innings allowing three runs/two earned on three hits and striking out five. Philip Wetherell threw a scoreless ninth to collect his team leading third save of the year for the RiverDogs.

Ben Gamel, Gary Sanchez, Angelo Gumbs, and Reymond Nunez all chipped in with two hits for Charleston. The only two RiverDogs in the lineup without a hit were Dante Bichette, Jr. and Tyler Austin. In the second inning, Cito Culver walked with the bases loaded to score Austin, and then Nunez doubled down the right field line to score Sanchez and Gumbs. Sanchez then scored on a double by Gumbs an inning later in the third to make it 4-1.

Game 2 will be on Wednesday morning with the RiverDogs searching for their 10th consecutive victory. RHP Bryan Mitchell (0-1, 3.75 ERA) is starting for Charleston and LHP Kyle Hallock (1-0, 9.28 ERA) starting for Lexington. First pitch is scheduled for 10:05 am.
