POWER REPLAY: West Virginia lost the series finale at Charleston on Sunday by a 4-3 final. The Power took a 3-0 lead into the ninth thanks to single runs in the second, fourth, and seventh innings. In the ninth, the RiverDogs got a leadoff home run from Tyler Austin, a two-run single from Francisco Arcia, and a sacrifice fly to complete the rally and win the game. Emmanuel De Leon was charged with his first blown save and took the loss.
13 IN A ROW: Alen Hanson's hitting streak has reached 13 games with a 1-5 performance on Sunday. The infielder is batting .439 during his current streak and already has surpassed the longest hitting streak by any player during the 2011 season (Dan Grovatt and Mel Rojas Jr.- 10 games each). Only one player has a longer hitting streak in the league this year. Kannapolis's Rangel Ravero is currently at 14 games and still active. Hanson has reached safely by base hit in 15 of his 17 games played this season.
MEET THE METS: West Virginia will play the Savannah Sand Gnats over the next four days. It is the only series this season between the clubs. The Power lead the all-time series 18-12 and hold a 10-5 record at Appalachian Power Park against the SAL affiliate of the New York Mets. West Virginia and Savannah were scheduled to play seven times last season, but only managed to get six in due to a rainout on the second day of the season.
WELCOME TO WEST VIRGINIA: The Pittsburgh Pirates added Ryan Hafner to the Power roster earlier today and he will make his first start in a Power jersey this evening. Hafner was selected in the 17th round of the 2010 draft from Lee's Summit West High School in Missouri and made his professional debut in the GCL that same summer. The right-hander pitched exclusively for State College last year, going 2-6 with a 3.15 ERA.
ROAD WOES: Sunday's loss was the Power's ninth straight on the road, having not won since April 6 at Hagerstown. West Virginia is 1-10 on the road so far this season and holds a staff ERA of 6.00 despite batting at a .281 clip during those 11 games. The Power have lost eight of the ten games by three runs or less including four by one run.
REINSTATED: Jordan Cooper was added back to the active roster earlier today after serving his league-mandated three game suspension for beaning Asheville's Will Swanner last Monday.
AT A LOSS: West Virginia has dropped six straight games since sweeping Greenville during the opening homestand. A loss tonight will match the longest losing streaks during the first three seasons as a Pirates affiliate. The longest losing streak during 2011 was seven games, the longest of 2010 was six (three times), and the longest stretch without a win in 2009 was also seven games.
PROMO UPDATE- APRIL 27: The Power will host a Charlies Reunion Night on April 27 at Appalachian Power Park. Former Charleston Charlies like Kent Tekulve, Steve Blass, and Dave Parker will be in attendance for the game and will sign autographs. A VIP experience is also being offered with an hour long meet and greet plus question and answer session.
POWER POINTS: To make room on the active roster for Ryan Hafner, the Pittsburgh Pirates transferred right-hander Stetson Allie to the State College Spikes roster...
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh's game with Colorado was postponed due to inclement weather at PNC Park and will be made up as part of a doubleheader tomorrow... Indianapolis lost 4-2 at Louisville... Altoona had Monday off and opens a three game series against Harrisburg tonight... Bradenton bested Jupiter 8-2 on the strength of three home runs, including two from Stefan Welch.
ON THE AIR: All 140 West Virginia Power games can be heard on ESPN 104.5 FM and 1490 AM in Charleston, WV, across the state on the Power Radio Network, and online at milb.com.
