
Bundy Perfect in Shorebirds 4-2 Series Opening Win

Salisbury, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds (10-8) scored two runs in the bottom of eighth inning to defeat the Greenville Drive, 4-2, at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Tuesday night. Dylan Bundy, Zach Davies and Miguel Chalas combined to allow just five hits. Bundy and Davies did not allow a hit over the first 5.2 innings.
The marquee pitching matchup of Dylan Bundy and Matt Barnes lived up to the hype early. Bundy retired all 12 batters he faced over four perfect innings. He struck out six. In 13 total innings, Bundy has not allowed a hit or run and has fanned 21 batters. Barnes struck out nine batters over five scoreless innings. He allowed just two hits.
The Shorebirds broke through in the bottom of the sixth inning. Gabriel Lino hit a one out single. Brenden Webb drew a walk. Then, relief pitcher Jason Garcia issued two wild pitches to advance the runners to second and third. Connor Narron followed with an RBI single to give the Shorebirds a 1-0 lead. Narron has recorded an RBI in six straight games. Nicky Delmonico followed with an RBI groundout to second to plate Webb.
The Drive responded by tallying a run in the seventh and eighth innings. Boss Moanaroa tripled with one out in the seventh and scored on an RBI single by Bryan Johns. In the eighth, Henry Ramos hit a two-out single to score Garin Cecchini to tie the game at 2-2.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Shorebirds regained the lead. Jason Esposito led off with a sharp double down the right field line. Two batters later, Webb drew his second walk of the game. After a groundout moved the runners up, Delmonico chopped a two-run single into center field to give the Shorebirds a 4-2 lead.
Miguel Chalas fanned the final two batters he faced to end the game in the ninth. Chalas allowed three hits and two runs and picked up his staff high third win of the year.
Davies tossed two scoreless innings in relief of Bundy.
The Shorebirds and Drive play game two of the series on Wednesday morning at 10:35 am. LHP Tim Berry is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
