Round Rock Express News Release

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico - Express center fielder Mike Rodriguez pounded out a season-high five RBI on a homer and two doubles, leading the way as Round Rock downed Albuquerque 12-4 on Tuesday night at Isotopes Park.

The Isotopes took a 1-0 lead in the first inning against starter and eventual winner Jason Hirsh. Round Rock came back to tie it on an RBI single from Hirsh, scoring Charlton Jimerson, who bunted his way on with one out in the second inning.

A two-run homer from Alan Zinter, his first in more than a month, gave the Express a 3-1 lead in the third inning. Albuquerque put up a run in the bottom of the frame to narrow the lead to 3-2.

In the fourth inning, Rodriguez went to work. He smacked an opposite field, two-run homer to up the Express lead to 5-2 and extend his hitting streak to an Express season-high 14 games. Rodriguez needs hits in just three more consecutive games to tie the 2001 record of 17 set by Royce Huffman.

The Isotopes came back with two runs on three hits to once again close the lead to one run, but the Express began to pull away in the seventh inning.

A two-run homer from Hector Gimenez and Rodriguez's two-run double gave Round Rock a 9-4 lead. And the Express wasn't done.

In the following inning, Luke Scott ripped a fastball from reliever Chris Resop to the top of the four-tiered berm in right field - his 17th of the season to tie him for the league's home run lead. In the ninth inning, Round Rock scored two more runs on an RBI double by Rodriguez (his 5th RBI on the night) and an RBI ground out by Huffman.

Jason Hirsh notched his seventh win of the season, and sixth straight, pitching seven innings. Roberto Giron pitched two shutout innings to seal the win.

Game 3 takes place at 8:05 CST at Isotopes Park on Wednesday. Right-hander Chris Baker takes the hill for the Express.
