FRESNO, Calif. - History will be made at Grizzlies Stadium when the venue hosts its first soccer game between the Fresno Fuego and the Orange County Blue Star on July 12 at 7:30 p.m.

The match was announced by the Grizzlies/Falcons ownership group this afternoon during a press conference at Grizzlies Stadium. Promotions for the game include free team posters to the first 3,000 fans, youth soccer opening ceremonies and a post-game fireworks extravaganza. Tickets for the event are only $7 and can be purchased at the Grizzlies ticket office, by phone at 559-320-TIXS or online at www.fresnogrizzlies.com. Groups of 20 or more also can get tickets for a discounted rate of just $5.

"We are thrilled to have the Fresno Fuego play in the first ever soccer game at Grizzlies Stadium," C.E.O. Pat Filippone said. "This is another step in our goal to bring more events to the Fresno community and to get the Fresno Fuego known to those who may not know much about the team and its historic league."

"Soccer is the most popular sport in the world and with the World Cup drawing international attention, there's no better time to re-introduce competitive team soccer to the Fresno community," Falcons C.E.O. John Tull said. "The Fresno Fuego game on July 12 will showcase the most talented soccer players in the Central Valley competing in one of the nicest outdoor facilities of its kind on the west coast, Grizzlies Stadium."

The Fresno Fuego play in the Premier Development League (PDL), a division of the United Soccer League. The PDL is the top under 23 men's amateur league in North America and is the development ground for elite players. The 2006 season features 59 teams across North America, consisting of 16 regular season matches with eight games home and eight away. The Fuego play in the PDL Southwest Division with the San Francisco Seals, Southern California Seahorses, San Fernando Valley Quakes, Los Angeles Storm, Bakersfield Brigade, San Diego Gauchos, California Gold and Orange County.

Youth soccer teams may purchase tickets for just $5, which includes a pre-game parade of youth soccer teams on the field. Fans should also check out the Thursday and Friday Fresno Bee for information on a special Ball Boy and Ball Girl contest.
