June 24, 2023 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Ashwaubenon, Wis.- The Green Bay Rockers suffered a home loss to the Kenosha Kingfish 2-1 Saturday night at Capital Credit Union Park, in the first of a two-game series this weekend in Ashwaubenon.
The Rockers finished with just two hits in the game Saturday and despite a strong start from starting pitcher Kyle Stoddard (Missouri Southern State), two Kingfish runs proved to be the difference as the Rockers now look for the series split Sunday afternoon at home.
Green Bay scored the game's first run on an RBI single from Kyle West, and the Rockers took the 1-0 lead through one inning with Kenosha still looking for their first baserunner in the second inning.
Stoddard pitched a 1-2-3 second and third inning on the mound, keeping the Kenosha offense at bay through the first three innings, as the Rockers maintained a 1-0 lead heading into the fourth at Capital Credit Union Park.
Kenosha tied the game up in the fourth courtesy of a solo homer from Bobby Atkinson (Heartland Community College), making the score 1-1 going into the fifth, after the Rockers went scoreless in the bottom of the frame.
The Kingfish took the 2-1 lead in the fifth after an RBI single from Adam Pottinger (Indiana State), and that score would remain the same entering the sixth, with the Rockers still trailing by a run heading into the later innings.
Cooper Dossett (Arkansas) pitched a scoreless 1.2 innings of relief in the seventh and eighth innings which kept the Rockers in it down the stretch, but Green Bay did not score in those innings and therefore went into the ninth still trailing by a run.
Tyler Horvath (Case Western Reserve) threw a scoreless ninth inning to give Green Bay a chance in the bottom half of the ninth, as he finished with three strikeouts in just 1.1 innings pitched in the eighth and ninth innings.
However, the Rockers went scoreless in the bottom of the ninth and therefore fell to Kenosha 2-1 Saturday night at home, and the Rockers will now look to win the final meeting of the season between the Kingfish Sunday afternoon.
The Rockers and Kingfish are set to square off for the final time this season Sunday at Capital Credit Union Park. First pitch from Ashwaubenon is set for 1:05 p.m.
