Lakeshore Chinooks News Release
Mequon, WI - Former Lakeshore Chinook Grant Hartwig made his MLB debut with the New York Mets on Monday. Hartwig's pitching appearance makes him the 16th Chinooks alumni to make it to the MLB.
A native of Detroit, MI, Hartwig spent his college days as a pitcher for the Miami (OH) Redhawks. Hartwig appeared 42 times as a Redhawk, finishing his career with a 7-9 record and a 4.32 ERA in 154 innings pitched.
Hartwig joined the Chinooks for the summer of 2019, making 12 appearances on the mound. The right-hander struck out 39 batters across seven starts, the second most on the team that summer. In 38.1 innings of work Hartwig finished with a 2-1 record and 4.70 ERA
After a career best 2021 senior season at Miami that saw him toss 82 punch outs on his way to a 3.44 ERA and 5-5 record, the New York Mets signed Hartwig as an undrafted free agent. Hartwig quickly made his way through the Mets minor league system, making his way to Triple-A Syracuse in just his second season in the minors.
After just 68 minor league appearances, Hartwig got the call that he was being promoted to the Mets' roster. The former Chinooks made his MLB debut on Monday, June 20, relieving Max Scherzer in the ninth inning. Hartwig faced four batters, allowing a hit and a walk, and forcing a double play. He then appeared in Wednesday's game pitching another scoreless inning.
The Chinooks wish Grant the best of luck as he begins his MLB career with the Mets.
