
Mallards Flock the Pit Spitters

Traverse City, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters lose two in a row, dropping to a 17-10 record after a 18-4 loss to the Madison Mallards in front of 2,846 fans this evening at Turtle Creek Stadium.
The Mallards began their route on the Pit Spitters in the top of the third inning when Noah Sudyka led off the inning with a base hit, followed by a walk drawn by Jake Holcroft. Ryan Sprock hit a double to left field bringing in a run to make it 1-0. That was the start of five straight hits by the Mallards, including a home run making it 8-0. The Mallards added on in the top of the fourth inning as Sprock led off with a walk, followed by three straight hits. The inning also included a single from Davis Hamilton that brought around two runners making it 12-0. After three straight walks, and a Cooper Erikson strikeout, Cole Prout was hit by a pitch to bring across the Pit Spitters first run to make it 15-1. Following Prout's walk, Tyler Minnick drew a walk to make it 15-2. The Pit Spitters added two more in the bottom of the eighth after back-to-back doubles from Dylan Carey and Erikson making it 15-3. Camden Traficante then hit one up the middle into center field to score Erikson making it 15-4. The Mallards placed a cherry on top of their offensive outburst by scoring two more runs off a Sprock double to make it 17-4. Isaiah Jackson then grounded out to second base to bring across Sprock to give them a 18-4 lead. Jack Crighton led things off with a bang in the bottom of the ninth with a lead off trip, Devin Hukill hit up the middle to make it 17-5.
The Pit Spitters drop to 17-10 on the season, as the Mallards improve to 15-12. Pit Spitters starting pitcher Josh Lanham gave up eight runs on nine hits, striking out four, in two and two thirds' innings. Nathan Dvorsky came in for long relief as he threw three and a third innings, giving up six runs on seven hits, walking a pair. Easton Johnson pitched the final three innings giving up one run on one hit, walking two.

The Pit Spitters are back in action tomorrow night against the Madison Mallards in game two of a two-game series with first pitch at 5:05 p.m. Sunday evening is Sunday Family Days presented by Great Wolf Lodge.
