HOMEWARD BOUND: The Rochester Red Wings dropped their series finale against Scranton/WB Sunday afternoon, 6-4, dropping their six-game series against the RailRiders four games to two...CF JAMES WOOD extended his on-base streak to a team-leading 19 games with a single in the fifth, and C DREW MILLAS put together a multi-hit performance that included a double, an RBI and a run scored...Rochester returns home today to kick off a six-game set against the Buffalo Bisons, the second time this season the Thruway rivals have met and first time at Innovative Field...RHP ROBERT GSELLMAN gets the nod for the Wings in what will be his third start (10th appearance) of 2024.
SEEN MORE PLAQUES THAN TOOTHBRUSHES : CF JAMES WOOD was named International League Player of the Week for his performance across all six games against Scranton/WB...the Nationals top prospect hit .556 (10-for-18) across the week, smacking a league-leading five home runs with a double and 12 RBI...in the contest Sunday, Wood extended his on-base streak to a team-leading 19 games (T-3rd in IL) with a 1-for-5 performance at the plate with a run scored...additionally, he has now scored a run in seven consecutive games, most by a Red Wing this season and the longest active streak in the IL...
Wood also extended his hitting streak to nine games in the contest, tied for his longest of 2024 (4/20-5/1)...both are the longest hitting streaks by a Red Wing this season.
He is the second Red Wing to take home IL Player of the Week honors this season (RF TRAVIS BLANKENHORN , 4/16-21).
MILLAS MAYHEM: C DREW MILLAS turned in Rochester's only multi-hit performance on Sunday, going 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored...across nine games in May, the switch-hitting catcher is hitting .389 (14-for-36) with four home runs, four doubles, 11 RBI and five runs scored...Millas carries an .833 slugging percentage in the month, best in the International League and just ahead of CF JAMES WOOD (.805) in second place.
TURN DOWN FOR WAT(KINS): RHP SPENSER WATKINS allowed three earned on seven hits across 5.0 innings of work in his start on Sunday...this marked his sixth consecutive start of at least 4.0 innings pitched, his longest stretch since 8/13-9/13 in 2022 with Baltimore (5 starts) and Triple-A Norfolk (1 start)...
Watkins is the only qualified pitcher in the International League with a 1.000 winning percentage this season (1-0).
THA CARTER III: 1B CARTER KIEBOOM , making his first career start at first base, ripped his team-leading third double of the series in the finale Sunday to highlight a 1-for-5 day at the plate...he has now hit safely in seven of his eight games played in May, collecting nine hits in 27 at bats (.333) over that span...
Kieboom carries an on-base percentage of .394 this season, third-best on the team.
