Road Warriors Win Third Straight in 6-3 Decision Over Blades

ESTERO, FL - Brendan Wong scored a goal and added three assists to lead the Greenville Roadwarriors to a 6-3 victory over the Florida Everblades at Germain Arena Wednesday night.
The Road Warriors" offense looked like a well-oiled machine in the first period, scoring two goals. The first goal came when Justin Bowers picked up a rebound and shot the puck past Florida goaltender Pat Nagle from the right side of the goal. Greenville added its second goal of the period when Bowers found Lee Baldwin skating down between the circles whose wrist shot screamed past Nagle.
Florida's outshot the Road Warriors 16-12, but Greenville's goalie Nick Riopel stayed vigilant and the score would remain 2-0 for the remainder of the period.
Greenville's offense refused to let up in the second period when Connor Shields' shot from point blank range beat goalie Billy Sauer, who replaced Nagle in the first period. Shields' shot gave the Road Warriors a 3-0 lead only three minutes into the period.
Florida got its first goal of the game when newcomer Mike Ratchuk found the puck which deflected off of Riopel at the right side circle and slammed it into the back of the net on the wrist shot making the score 3-1.
The Road Warriors answered back in less than a minute as Jyri Niemi's goal made it 4-1, which would remain for the remainder of the period.
The Everblades continued to fight in the third period of play and brought the score within one after goals from Cedirc McNicoll and Brayden Irwin making the score 4-3.
But the Road warriors answered back with a goal from Jeff Prough making it 5-3. Greenville secured its victory when Brandon Wong scored an empty net goal to make the final score 6-3. Riopel earns the win making 43 saves while Sauer will take the loss allowing three goals on 28 shots faced in a relief effort.
The two teams will meet again Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Germain Arena. Thursday night is Junior Everblades Night! The game was originally scheduled to be played on Friday January 27, but was moved to January 26 to accommodate the Zac Bown Band concert. All tickets with a Jan. 27 date will be honored for Thursday's game.
