Elmira Jackals News Release


The Elmira Jackals (26-12-1-0) finish out their four-game road trip when they meet the Gwinnett Gladiators this Thursday and Saturday and the South Carolina Stingrays on Sunday. The Jackals are on a three-game winning streak dating back to Jan. 15. Elmira currently occupies the top spot in the Eastern Conference by three points, and has owned first place in the conference since play ended on Dec. 31. The Jackals are 19-3-1-0 in their last 23 contests.

Friday, January 20

Elmira 4, Trenton 3

First Arena

Dustin Gazley capped off his first-career two-goal game with a tiebreaking strike with just 21 seconds remaining in regulation, propelling Elmira to a 4-3 victory over Trenton. Brian Stewart collected his 15th win of the season in the contest while Jordan Pietrus had his first of two multi-point games on the weekend with a goal and an assist, eventually earning him ECHL Player of the Week honors. The victory was the Jackals' fifth in a row over the Titans.

Saturday, January 21

Elmira 7, Wheeling 4

Cambria County War Memorial Arena

Pietrus registered two goals and two assists as the Jackals overcame a 2-0 second-period deficit, scoring six of the next seven goals en route to a 7-4 victory over the Wheeling Nailers. Maxime Gratchev and Josh Brittain also posted two-goal games for the Jackals, who scored seven goals in a contest for the first time since opening night. Elmira scored four goals in the third period, its most in one frame since Mar. 18, 2011. Timo Pielmeier improved to 5-0-1-0 in his last six starts.

ROAD POINT STREAK ON THE LINE

Elmira has earned points in six-straight road games and will face difficult tests this weekend as it meets South Carolina and Gwinnett, both three points behind the Jackals for first place in the Eastern Conference.

The Jackals are unbeaten in regulation on the road since Dec. 17, when they began a nine-game winning streak with a 4-3 victory in Kalamazoo. Elmira is 10-6-1-0 in away contests in 2011-2012.

Elmira is 1-0-0-0 versus Gwinnett this season, defeating the Gladiators in overtime on Nov. 9, 3-2. The Jackals are just 1-3-0-0 against the Stingrays, with their lone win coming on Jan. 6 at First Arena.

The Jackals have not played against the Gladiators on the road since Nov. 14, 2009 when they earned a dominating 11-3 win, with Maxime Gratchev posting a club-record six assists in the contest during his rookie season. Elmira owns an all-time record of 4-0-0-0 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.

The Jackals are 2-3-0-0 at South Carolina all-time, winning their last game at the North Charleston Coliseum on Mar. 8, 2011, 3-2.

DIVISIONAL DOMINANCE CONTINUES

The Jackals are unbeaten in regulation in their last 14 games against Atlantic opponents, going 13-0-1-0 during that stretch which dates back to Nov. 26.

During this streak, Elmira is 4-0-1-0 against Reading, 5-0-0-0 versus Trenton, and 4-0-0-0 in meetings with Wheeling.

The Jackals own an overall record of 16-6-1-0 against their Atlantic competition this season and lead the Nailers by eight points for first place in the division. Elmira has had sole possession of first place in the division since defeating Wheeling in overtime on Dec. 21.

PIETRUS BECOMES NINTH JACKAL TO EARN PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR

Jordan Pietrus earned his first-career ECHL Player of the Week honor for his efforts on Friday and Saturday and became the ninth Jackal to earn the award since the club joined the league in 2007.

Pietrus, Dustin Gazley, and Evan Barlow have all secured the title in 2011-2012. Brett Pilkington, Bryan Rodney, Bobby Robins, Justin Donati, Tyler Donati, and Michael Dubuc are the six other Jackals who have been named the ECHL Player of the Week.

GAZLEY HOLDS ROOKIE SCORING EDGE

Dustin Gazley registered three assists in Saturday's win over Wheeling to maintain his scoring lead among ECHL rookies by one point over the Nailers' Chris Barton.

The native of Novi, Mich. has 39 points this season and is also atop all league rookies with 27 assists. Gazley leads the Jackals in scoring in 2011-2012.
