Chicago Express News Release

Hoffman Estates, IL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, saw their 2-0 third period lead vanish, eventually falling 3-2 in overtime to the Cincinnati Cyclones at the Sears Centre Arena on Wednesday night.

The Express got on the board early at 3:33 when C Chad Painchaud fired a one-timer from LW

SNS Photography Tyler Donati over the blocker of Cyclones G Brian Foster to give the Express the lead. Chicago added to their lead with just 33 seconds to go in the period when D Darcy Campbell bounced a shot off of Foster's chest on the power play and RW Pierre-Luc Faubert knocked the puck out of the air and into the back of the net to extend the lead to 2-0. Chicago held a 13-8 shot advantage through the first frame.

Neither team was able to get on the board in the second period. Cincinnati had several chances to score including three power play opportunities but Express G Peter Mannino turned away everything the Cyclones could shoot at him. Cincinnati took the lead in shots with a 21-17 advantage through two.

The Cyclones forced a turnover early in the second period, allowing RW Mathieu Aubin to cruise into the attacking end and fire a shot past Mannino, cutting the Chicago lead to 2-1. Cincinnati evened up the score after a turnover behind the Chicago net caught Mannino out of the net and LW Robert Slaney tucked it home, tying the game at 2-2 with 1:31 left to play.

A back-and-forth overtime ended when the Cyclones earned a 2-on-1 rush, and Aubin slid a pass to C Micheal Pelech, who blasted home the game-winning goal with 1:09 left in OT.

Power plays: CHI: 1/3; CIN: 0/3

Three stars: 1. M. Pelech (CIN); 2. P. Faubert (CHI); 3. M. Aubin (CIN)

Notes:

LW Chad Painchaud played in his 300th ECHL game tonight. He tallied one goal in the contest... Chicago has never lost a game in regulation when leading after the second period. The Express are now 11-0-3 in those situations... G Peter Mannino started his fifth straight game for the Express. He has started every game for Chicago since being assigned from St. John's on January 13.

Chicago heads to Toledo on Friday, before returning home for back-to-back games against the Cyclones on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday is Youth Jersey giveaway night, so get to the arena early!
