
Rivermen Bring Defenseman McPherson Out of Retirement

Peoria, Ill. (January 15, 2004) â Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that defenseman Darwin McPherson has come out of retirement to join the Rivermen for their home game against the Dayton Bombers.
McPherson â a 6-foot-2, 210-pound defenseman â has been retired for 10 years, working as a steam pipe fitter for CMI. The 35-year-old native of Flin Flon, Manitoba gives the Rivermen 14 healthy skaters for tonight's contest.
McPherson played parts of three seasons for the Rivermen when they competed in the International Hockey League (IHL). He competed in 18 games for the Rivermen in 1989-1990 with one goal and 94 penalty minutes (PIM); he participated in just one game in 1990-1991; and he played in five games with two (2) PIM in 1993-1994 before retiring.
McPherson played more total games for the Dayton Bombers (ECHL) during his brief four-year career, posting 18 points (4g, 14a) and 304 PIM over two seasons (1992-1994).
On Thursday, January 15, the Rivermen host the archrival Dayton Bombers. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at Carver Arena. WWE Legend Ric Flair will appear courtesy of the Par-A-Dice Hotel-Casino. He will sign autographs for $5 (which includes an 8x10) from 6-8:00 p.m.; limit two per person.
On Friday, January 16 and Saturday, January 17, Peoria hosts the rival Johnstown Chiefs in two in a row at Carver Arena. On Friday, it is a Coca-Cola Finally Friday. Fans will receive a 2-for-1 Upper Bowl admission by presenting a Cherry Coke or Vanilla Coke can at the Carver Arena Box Office. Game time is 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, it is Trevor Baker Bobblehead Night, sponsored by CEFCU. The first 3,000 fans will receive a bobblehead of the Rivermen captain. Special game time is 8:00 p.m.
The Peoria Rivermen are a member of the ECHL â America's Premier "AA" Hockey League. The Rivermen will host the 2004 ECHL All-Star Game & Skills Competition on January 20-21, 2004. Tickets are available by calling 309.676.1040.
