Peoria Rivermen News Release

Peoria, Ill. (January 15, 2004) – Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that defenseman Doug MacIver has been signed and added to the roster. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

MacIver – a 6-foot-5, 223-pound defenseman – amassed 116 penalty minutes (PIM) in 16 games for the Fresno Falcons, including a team-record 41 PIM in one game on January 4, before his release. The 22-year-old native of King City, Ontario – who has averaged more than four PIM per game over his two-year career – was acquired from the Charlotte Checkers for cash considerations on November 14, 2003. With Charlotte, he posted three assists with 15 PIM in eight games to open 2003-2004.

As a rookie (2002-2003), MacIver racked up 103 PIM in 27 games for the now-defunct Jackson Bandits. He skated in two games late in the 2001-2002 season for the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League (AHL) after completing a four-year Major Junior "A" hockey career in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He spent the majority of three of his four seasons (1999-2002) with the Kingston Frontenacs, registering 558 PIM in 178 games with 46 points (8g, 38a).
