Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON- Charleston RiverDogs starting pitcher Jairo Heredia has been named the South Atlantic League (SAL) Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
This marks the second time this season that a RiverDogs pitcher has garnered such laurels, as Jason Stephens was named SAL Co-Pitcher of the Week on June 2.
Heredia (pronounced HI-row huh-RAY-dee-uh), the No. 20 overall prospect in the Yankees farm system according to Baseball America, had his two best outings for Charleston over the past week, allowing just two unearned runs on five hits in 13.1 innings of work with four walks and 11 strikeouts in registering a 2-0 record.
The Dominican native snapped a personal two-game losing streak by defeating the Savannah Sand Gnats on June 30 and the Augusta GreenJackets on July 5. In 61.0 innings this season, the 6'1 right-hander has given up just 18 earned runs while walking 23 and fanning 58 batters.
Heredia's next scheduled start is Thursday, July 10, when the RiverDogs conclude a four-game series against the Lexington Legends, a Houston Astros affiliate, for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
