Jackets Begin Home Stand with Win

Lakewood, NJ - The Augusta GreenJackets (41-28, 14-4) began a four game series against the Lakewood BlueClaws (38-32, 10-8) on Monday night and came way with a 7-6 win despite a furious rally in the ninth by Lakewood. Starter Chance Corgan worked a career high seven shutout innings and Augusta's Taylor Creswell finished 4-for-5 with a pair of RBIs.

Augusta took a 7-1 lead into the ninth inning but Lakewood plated four runs on six consecutive hits to begin the inning and then an RBI sac-fly by Joel Naughton pulled Lakewood to within 7-6. With the tying run on second base Andrew De La Garza was able to get the next two batters to pop out to end the game and record his third save of the season.

Corgan (2-2) allowed just three hits, one walk and struck out four in his second consecutive win.

Augusta took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a two-out RBI double from Angel Villalona.

The GreenJackets made it 3-0 with single runs in the third and fourth innings with Taylor Creswell scoring in the third on a wild pitch and Charlie Culberson scoring in the fourth inning when Shane Jordan hit into a fielders choice.

The GreenJackets pushed the lead to 7-0 in the sixth inning scoring four times with two outs. Nestor Rojas and Culberson connected for back-to-back singles then Creswell followed with a two-run double. Jordan and Garrett Baker also had RBI singles in the inning.

The BlueClaws got their first run of the game in the eighth inning on a one-out RBI double from Joel Naughton off of T.J. Brewer.

The GreenJackets and BlueClaws continue their series Tuesday night with Augusta sending right-hander Oliver Odle (6-4, 4.13) to the mound. Lakewood counters with left-hander Jacob Diekman (2-5, 5.23). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
