
Five Former GreenJackets Heading to MLB All-Star Game

Augusta, GA - Major League Baseball Announced its rosters Sunday for the annual mid-summer classic. The 2008 MLB All-Star roster includes five former Augusta GreenJackets from three different major league affiliations.
Former GreenJackets Aramis Ramirez, Kevin Youkilis, Dustin Pedoria, Hanley Ramirez, and Brian Wilson were all named All-Stars in their respective leagues. The 79th MLB All-Star game is schedule to be played July 15th at Yankee Stadium.
Ramirez suited up for the GreenJackets in 1996. This year, Ramirez has played 61 games for the Chicago Cubs, batting .283 with 10 homers and 50 RBIs. Ramirez will start the 2008 All-Star game for the National League at third base.
Youkilis, now playing first base for the Boston Red Sox, was voted by the fans to start the 2008 All-Star game at first base for the American League. Youkilis spent parts of the 2001 and 2002 seasons in Augusta. He is currently batting .311 with 13 home runs and 53 RBIs.
Ramirez, the 2006 NL Rookie of the Year, was also voted on by the fans to start the 2008 All-Star game. Ramirez played 111 games with the GreenJackets in 2003 as a Boston Red Sox farmhand before being traded to the Florida Marlins. Ramirez is currently batting .304 with 21 home runs and 43 RBIs for the Florida Marlins.
Pedroia will start at second base for the American League All-Stars. Pedroia played with the GreenJackets in 2004 as a shortstop. The 2007 American League Rookie of the Year is currently batting .312 with 9 homers and 41 RBIs with the Boston Red Sox.
Wilson played for the GreenJackets in 2005 going 5-1 with a .082 ERA and 13 saves. Wilson was also named to the 2005 South Atlantic League All-Star game. Currently, Wilson has a 4.37 ERA with a National League leading 24 saves for the San Francisco Giants. Wilson is the most recent GreenJacket to make the 2008 All-Star team.
The Augusta GreenJackets currently sit in first place in the Southern Division of the South Atlantic League and have an overall record of 54-32, second best in the SAL among the 16 teams. The GreenJackets are currently on an eight game 10 day road trip to the North East but return home for an eight game home stand on July 16.
