Charleston RiverDogs News Release

Forget - for the moment - that baseball is the main attraction at beautiful Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. Forget - for the moment - that the RiverDogs are affiliated with the 26-time World Champion New York Yankees and, forget - for the moment - that the RiverDogs, on the field, have already captured the South Atlantic League's Southern Division first-half championship.

Forget what you will, but remember always the food...as many have.

Once again, the reputation of the concessions at The Joe has gone national.

Several months ago, The Food Network aired a special hosted by Rachel Ray on ballpark food and the RiverDogs' concessions were promptly included. Featured, in fact.

Now it is time for a second helping.

ESPN The Magazine, in its upcoming issue that is expected to hit the newsstands Wednesday, will include a feature on ballpark food and the RiverDogs and its noted concessions will be promptly showcased.

On Sunday, June 26, while the RiverDogs were hosting SAL rival Augusta in a doubleheader, ESPN The Magazine photographer Nia Berman flew in specifically to shoot Riley Park's concessions. She stayed for both games, and she had ample opportunities as the RiverDogs played host to a near capacity 5,767 fans.

"We feel that our ‘Fun is Good' concept is indeed part of our concessions," said General Manager Dave Echols. "We know that coming to a RiverDogs game is supposed to be wholesome family entertainment, and our concessions are a tremendous part of that positive experience. We take great pride in our concessions offerings and their quality."

Coordinated by Food & Beverage Director Jason Kerton and his talented staff, the RiverDogs offer to fans of all ages and sizes a wide range of food choices. And we're not talking about just peanuts, popcorn, hot dogs and Cracker Jack.

The aroma of cooking beef, seafood, pork and more blankets the entire Riley Park area, and one can't walk too far without bumping into another food or drink opportunity. The assortment of choices ranges from American to Italian to Mexican and from low-carb and salads to, well, unique fare like RiverBurgers, RiverDogs (a variety of hot dogs), grilled turkey legs and the The Elvis (peanut butter, bananas and honey).

While the cuisine and nourishing fare stretches the gamut, there is an abundance of beverages from which to choose. A Pepsi facility, Riley Park proudly features all sorts of Pepsi products, but where else can one secure tea - sweet and unsweetened - in addition to lemonade? Of course, beer is a favorite at ballparks, almost as natural as the peanuts, popcorn, hot dogs and Cracker Jack.

Riley Park has two separate beer gardens - and a specific family-friendly section where no beer is permitted - and offers more than 25 different brands of brew. All nationally popular brands of beer are available as well as an assortment of international brands. There's certainly a beer for every taste.

"We've got a hard-working and dedicated staff," says Kerton, "and they are devoted to helping make Riley Park's customers' experience as pleasant as possible. To say that ‘we bend over backwards' is an understatement, because we do. We certainly offer the ballpark staples, but we work extra hard to offer something a little different, like crawfish and hummus, to appeal to the most sophisticated appetite. I think we've been successful."
