
BlueClaws Win in Bottom of the 9th

Lakewood, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws (5-3) wrapped up their home stand at FirstEnergy Park with an 8-7 win over the Hagerstown Suns (3-5), Single-A affiliate of the New York Mets. Greg Golson's RBI base hit in the bottom of the ninth with two outs gave the BlueClaws the win.
Lakewood led 7-3 entering the seventh before Hagerstown plated three runs to chase Lakewood starter Andy Baldwin and cut the lead to 7-6. The Suns tied the score at 7-7 in the eighth off reliever Joe Bisenius.
Lakewood had two outs in the ninth inning when Sean Gamble reached on Grant Psomas's error. Jesus Merchan followed up with a base hit to put runners on first and second for Golson. Golson fell behind in the count 1-2 before shooting a ball into a left field in front of Corey Coles allowing Gamble to come around to score the game winning run.
Lakewood trailed 2-1 entering the bottom of the second before the BlueClaws plated five runs on four hits to take a 5-2 lead. After Ryan Frith led off the inning being hit by a pitch Gamble followed up with a base hit then both runners moved up a base on the throw to the plate. Merchan followed up with an RBI base hit to tie the game up at 2-2.
Golson followed up with a walk then Brad Harman followed up with an RBI base hit to give Lakewood a 3-2 lead. Merchan came around to score on a wild pitch then with two outs in the inning Doug Gredvig connected for a two-run double to cap off the scoring and give Lakewood a 6-2 lead.
Baldwin got the no-decision in the game allowing six runs, three earned, on 10 hits while walking one and striking out four over 6 2/3 innings.
Bisenius (W, 4-2) pitched the final two innings allowing a run on three hits while walking one and striking out one. Corey Dueitt came into the game in the seventh and pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing just one hit.
Gredvig led the offense going 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and three RBI's while Merchan finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and run scored. Golson went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, a stolen base and an RBI.
Lakewood heads out on the road for a nine game road trip beginning with two in Hagerstown against the Suns. The BlueClaws will send right-hander Nate Johnson (7-3, 2.92) to the mound Saturday night while the Suns will counter with right-hander Mike Devaney (4-1, 3.27). First pitch on Friday night is at 7:05 p.m. with on-air time at 6:50 p.m. on 1310 WADB and www.blueclaws.com.
This season, the Lakewood BlueClaws are celebrating their fifth anniversary of providing great fun in the Jersey sun. Among the great promotions, fireworks every Friday night home game and kids eat free Monday Nights courtesy of Shop Rite. In addition, the BlueClaws will host games against the New York Mets affiliate.
