Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Augusta, Ga. - David Cook's RBI double and Josh Hansen's two run home run, helped Kannapolis to a 4-3 win over Augusta at Lake Olmstead Stadium. Both teams resumed their second half of the season after Tuesday's South Atlantic League All-Star Game from Augusta.
After managing very little in the first eight innings at the plate, the GreenJackets rallied in the bottom of the ninth. Lisandro Disla led off with a single to left. Alex Requena lined a triple down the line in right, driving in Disla. Requena scored on an RBI ground out from Aaron Hornostaj. However, Carlos Sosa struck out and Brian Horwitz grounded out to end the game.
Kannapolis was the first to score a run after three scoreless innings. Hansen led off the fourth inning with a double to the gap in left center. After GreenJackets starter Caleb Salankey retired the next two batters, Ryan McCarthy singled to right, driving in Hansen for the first run of the game.
In the fifth inning, Chris Getz walked with one out in the inning. Getz advanced to second on a ground out from Jose de los Santos. Cook's double over left fielder Jon Armitage's head, drove in Getz and gave Kannapolis a 2-0 lead. Anthony Moreno relieved Salankey and promptly gave up a line-drive two run homer to Hansen. It was Hansen's 16th homer of the season.
Kannapolis was far from solid. Intimidators starter Adam Russell walked five batters tonight however escaped with no damage done. Augusta finally got on the board by way of shoddy defense. Lisandro Disla reached on an error by second baseman de los Santos. After Disla advanced to second on Alex Requena's ground out and to third on Aaron Hornostaj's ground out, Carlos Sosa hit a ground ball to shortstop Ryan McCarthy, who threw it away at first, allowing Disla to score
