Greensboro Grasshoppers News Release

(GREENSBORO, NC) The Florida Marlins announced today that right-handed pitcher Zach Lerch will return to Greensboro and meet up with the Hoppers while the team is on the road in Columbus, GA. Rick Vanden Hurk will return to Jupiter's roster.

Lerch was in Greensboro in early June before he was promoted to Jupiter, FL after pitching in one game, only 2.1 innings for the Grasshoppers. During that particular game he allowed two hits, one run and walked two batters. This season with Jupiter, Lerch is 2-1-1 with an 8.66 ERA. In seven games played, he pitched 17.2 innings giving up 20 hits, 18 runs (17 earned) while striking out 15 batters. Lerch was drafted in the 42nd round of the 2002 draft.

Lerch will take right-handed pitcher Vanden Hurk's spot on the roster after Vanden Hurk was moved to the Greensboro roster on Thursday. He was placed on the Grasshopper roster in a Marlins paper move. Vanden Hurk will return to Jupiter, FL where he recently suffered a concussion on a hard hit line drive during his first start and was placed on the disabled list. Vanden Hurk never physically returned to Greensboro during the previous roster change.

He was drafted by Florida as a Free Agent in 2002.

The Grasshoppers will return to Greensboro, NC on July 4 to host the Charleston RiverDogs, a single-A affiliate of the New York Yankees. Game time is 7:00PM and gates will open at 5:30PM. The Grasshoppers are planning a spectacular fireworks show following the game in celebration of America's Independence Day.
