Columbus Catfish News Release
COLUMBUS, GA-Columbus Catfish PR Brandon Carter was thrown out at the plate to end the game in an attempt to score the tying run, as the Catfish fell just shy of a second straight comeback win tonight, falling 3-2 to Greensboro. The Fish sat through a 51-minute rain delay at Golden Park and once again rallied with a clutch hit in the late innings, but Greensboro scored on an unearned run in the eighth inning to prevail. LHP Wesley Wright took the loss for Columbus despite allowing just one unearned run in four innings tonight for the Fish. The Catfish drop back to 4-4 in the second half (32-45 overall) with the loss to the Grasshoppers, who tie the series at one game apiece with their win.
Greensboro struck before the rain fell in the fourth inning against Catfish starter RHP Zach Hammes when 3B Steve Gendron singled home two Grasshopper runners to make it 2-0. In the fifth inning with a runner on base and one out, lightning at the park caused a 51-minute rain delay, the first in-game delay at Golden Park this season. In the bottom of the seventh still trailing 2-0, Catfish SS Dominique Laurin drove home a pair of runs with a single to left, tying the game at two.
The lead was short lived, as Laurin¹s throwing error in the eighth inning allowed an unearned run to score for Greensboro, giving the Hoppers a 3-2 lead. In the ninth inning, the Catfish put runners on the corners with two away, but Brandon Carter was thrown out trying to score the tying run for the final out of the ballgame. RHP Chris Mobley¹s pitch went to the backstop, but caromed back to Greensboro catcher Brad Davis, who fired back to Mobley who tagged Carter out at home to end the game.
Tomorrow the Catfish and Greensboro square off at 7 PM at Golden Park for the third game of the series.
