Charleston RiverDogs News Release
AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Charleston RiverDogs could not bounce all the way back after a four-run third inning by the Augusta GreenJackets and dropped the final game of the road trip 5-2 Wednesday afternoon at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
After falling behind 4-0 in the third, Charleston (8-5) started a rally with two runs in the top of the fifth. Jorge Mateo belted a two-run triple to right field that sliced Augusta's lead in half and made the score 4-2.
However, those two runs would be the only ones Charleston would score in the entire game. Augusta (5-7) added one more to their total in the bottom of the fifth. Their bullpen held the RiverDogs scoreless for the final four innings.
Augusta plated four on five hits in the bottom of the third. A triple by Randy Ortiz, a single by T. Relaford, and a double by Jeremy Sy all brought home runs. The GreenJackets scored their first run of the inning on a throwing error by Charleston third baseman Allen Valerio after fielding a Christian Paulino bunt.
The RiverDogs come home with an 8-5 record after going 4-2 on their first road trip of the 2015 season. Charleston still remains in first place in the South Atlantic League's Southern Division.
COMING UP: The RiverDogs return home Thursday and play host to the Savannah Sand Gnats for a four-plus game series. The two teams will complete the Sunday's suspended game beginning at 6:05 p.m. and follow it with the full nine-inning game 30 minutes after it is finished. The first game will resume in the top of the 6th with the RiverDogs in front 8-3. The second game will feature RHP Andre Del Bosque (0-0, 2.84) for the R'Dogs and LHP Brad Wieck (0-2, 3.00) for the Sand Gnats.
