GREENSBORO, NC - Tyler Kolek threw five scoreless innings, striking out six, and Greensboro used a four-run first inning to top the BlueClaws 6-0 on Wednesday afternoon at NewBridge Bank Park.

The loss dropped the BlueClaws to 6-8 on the year and they finished their road trip at 2-5, losing two of three in Greensboro.

The Grasshoppers four-run first inning started with a lead-off home run by Mason Davis, his first of the season. AFter three straight singles loaded the bases, Lakewood starter Josh Taylor struck out Isael Soto for the second out, but Rony Cabrera doubled down the left-field line to score three runs and put Greensboro up 4-0.

Aaron Blanton homered in the second inning to put Greensboro up 5-0.

That was more than enough for Kolek (1-0), the second overall pick in last year's draft who earned his first professional win. Taylor (0-1) did not allow a run in his last three innings of work, and left allowing five runs over five innings, but with seven strikeouts against just one walk.

Austen Smith hit a solo home run off Alexis Rivero in the 7th inning that put Greensboro up 6-0.

Carlos Tocci's 9th inning single was one of just three BlueClaws hits but extended his hitting streak to nine games. He is 14-36 over the hitting streak after going 1-3 on Wednesday.

The BlueClaws were shutout for the third time this year. Derek Campbell's (0-3) seven-game hitting streak came to an end.

The BlueClaws return to Lakewood and open a four-game series with Hagerstown on Thursday at 6:35 pm. RHP Tyler Viza (2-0) starts the opener for the BlueClaws against RHP Drew Van Orden.
