Hickory Crawdads News Release

Asheville, NC - The Hickory Crawdads finished off their sweep of the Asheville Tourists in dominating fashion Wednesday night, as the 'Dads rolled to a 6-1 victory for their fourth win at McCormick Field in three days.

The Crawdads become the first South Atlantic League team to reach the 10-win plateau, finishing their weeklong road tip with a 6-1 record to push their season mark to 10-3. A Hickory offense that entered the game leading the league in batting average (.292), runs (67), and home runs (11) capped off the series with plenty more pop, as the Crawdads put up six runs on 13 hits and two more long balls.

The first three innings of the night were scoreless for both squads, with Arial Jurado of the 'Dads and Zach Jemiola of the Tourists both breezing through the opposing lineups early. The Crawdads were finally able to break open the game in the 4th, when Luke Tendler launched a 2-run homer to right to put Hickory up 2-0 and tie Tendler with his teammate Jose Trevino for the SAL home run lead with 4 dingers on the year. The very next batter was Tripp Martin, who made it back-to-back dingers when he went deep with long ball to left to push the Crawdads advantage to 3-0.

The 'Dads would add on with solo tallies in both the 5th and 6th frames, with an RBI fielder's choice by Ronald Guzman and a RBI double from Isiah Kiner-Falefa pushing the lead to 5-0. The Tourists were able to get on the board in the bottom of the 6th with a 2-out, RBI single from Randy Reyes, but the 'Dads responded with the game's last run on a RBI single from Kevin Torres in the 8th to cap the scoring at 6-1.

Tendler led the 'Dads offensive attack, with the defending SAL Player of the Week going 3-5 with a homer, double, and two RBI. Martin ended the night 1-3 with a long ball, RBI, and two runs scored, while Kiner-Falefa went 2-3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI.

Jurado (3-0) earned the win for the 'Dads after allowing one run on five hits, one walk, and three strikeouts over six innings pitched. Jemiola (2-1) took his first loss of the season for the Tourists with five runs given up on eight hits, no walks, and four Ks during his six innings on the mound. Hickory reliever Adam Parks (1) picked up the save with three scoreless innings out of the bullpen to end the game.

The Crawdads (10-3) will now return home to start a four-game series with the Kannapolis Intimidators at L.P. Frans Stadium, beginning Thursday night at 7:00 pm.
