Greenville Drive News Release
Lexington, KY - The Greenville Drive (7-6) had to wake up early for a morning game against the Lexington Legends (5-8) on Wednesday, but the end result was worth it, as the Drive came away with a 7-3 win to clinch a sweep of the three-game series and extend their winning streak to four.
Trailing 3-2 entering the top of the seventh, the Drive bats awakened for two runs in the seventh to take the lead and three more in the eighth for good measure.
Francisco Tellez laced a one-out double in the seventh against Emilio Ogando (0-1), and after Deiner Lopez reached on a two-out error, Derek Miller lined a two-run double to left field to put the Drive up 4-3.
In the eighth, the Drive again took advantage of shaky Lexington defense, as a two-out error on a Rafael Devers ground ball extended the inning. Michael Chavis followed with a double to left to plate Devers, and Tellez smacked a two-run shot to right, his first homer of the year, to cap the scoring.
Carlos Pinales (1-0) earned the victory in his first appearance in a Drive uniform, hurling three innings of relief and striking out five while only allowing one run. Kuehl McEachern fired a scoreless ninth to close out the game.
The Legends took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Elier Hernandez lifted a two-run homer to left field off Drive starter Jamie Callahan.
The homer was the only blemish to Callahan's line on the mound, as he allowed two runs, three hits and a walk in five innings with three strikeouts.
Chavis put the Drive on the board in the top of the fourth with an RBI single off Nik Stephenson to score Ben Moore, who reached on a hit-by-pitch, and Carlos Mesa tied the game in the top of the sixth with an RBI groundout.
Lexington took a short-lived lead in the bottom of the sixth against Pinales on an RBI double by Hernandez, who finished the day 3-4 with all three of the team's RBIs.
Chavis and Tellez each had two hits and two RBIs for Greenville, while Mauricio Dubon added two hits as well.
The Drive will return home on Thursday to begin a five-game homestand against the Asheville Tourists, affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. LH Jalen Beeks (0-0, 2.79) is the scheduled starter for the Drive, while the Tourists will start LH Helmis Rodriguez (1-0, 0.77 ERA).
