Sacramento River Cats News Release

Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Sacramento River Cats (3-4) used dominating pitching to halt a four-game losing streak and snag a series-opening victory over the Oklahoma City Dodgers (1-6) on Thursday night.

Right-hander and six-year major-league veteran Nick Tropeano allowed just one earned run on two hits in his second start as a member of the River Cats starting rotation. He struck out six and paved the way for the rest of the night as the bullpen would add eight to his tally for a total of 14 punch outs. Former Reno Aces closer Jimmie Sherfy struck out the side in the seventh while Dominic Leone earned his second save of the year while striking out two.

Third baseman Mitchel Tolman provided the clutch hit as his two-run single capped off a three-run fourth inning, which would prove to be enough in the 5-2 win. Right fielder Joe McCarthy homered in the eighth, his first of the season.

Left-hander Conner Menez will look to rebound after struggling during his 2021 debut start as he takes the ball for Sacramento in game two. Facing the Hollister, Calif. native will be 27-year old Yefry Ramirez, who has nearly 100 major-league innings under his belt since 2018. First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m. (PT). Additional Notes

The River Cats staff were actually outdone by Oklahoma City's as Sacramento hitters struck out 15 times on the night, but the visiting club turned their six hits and five walks into five runs and came away victorious. The staff's 14 strikeouts set a season-high, clipping a mark of 13 set in game two last Friday against the Las Vegas Aviators.

Just like Tuesday night, the River Cats had a hitting streak of five games snapped. This time, shortstop Thairo Estrada will return to zero after an 0-for-5 showing, hitting in his usual two-slot on Thursday evening.
