
RHP Jason Jones promoted to Triple-A

(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that RHP Jason Jones has been promoted from Trenton to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A), and C P.J. Pilittere has been activated from the Disabled List. RHP Jason Stephens has also been promoted from Tampa (High-A) to Trenton, and INF Walter Ibarra has been placed on the Temporary Inactive List.
Jones is 11-5 with a 3.03 ERA in 11 starts for the Thunder this season. He has struck out 78 and walked 41 in 124 2/3 innings. He has the seventh lowest ERA in the Eastern League, and he has the third most wins in the Eastern League. Jones started the Eastern League All-Star Game for the Northern Division squad. He won his first seven decisions this season. Last season, Jones was 8-11 with a 3.62 ERA in 28 G (19 starts) for Trenton. In 2006, he went 4-3 with a 4.83 ERA in 10 G (9 starts) for Trenton. His 23 wins is fourth all-time on the Thunder career list. Jones went five shutout innings, and gave up just one hit, in his lone start for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He received a no-decision on June 28th at Buffalo. He was originally a fourth round pick by the Yankees in the 2004 draft.
Pilittere suffered a broken nose at New Hampshire on July 23rd. He has a .283 BA in 74 G for the Thunder this season, with one home run and 34 RBI. Pilittere was selected to the 2008 Eastern League All-Star Game. Last season, he hit .261 BA with two home runs and 34 RBI for Trenton. Pilittere was originally selected by the Yankees in the 13th round of the 2004 draft. He played in the College World Series during his senior season at Cal State Fullerton.
Stephens has split the season between Charleston (Low-A) and Tampa. He was 2-3 with a 3.02 ERA in 17 G (8 starts) for the River Dogs, including one save. Stephens had 52 strikeouts and 10 walks in 59 2/3 innings. For Tampa, he went 3-5 with a 5.30 ERA in eight starts. He gave up 56 hits in 35 2/3 innings, with 21 strikeout and 57 walks. Opponents were hitting .376 against him in the Florida State League. Last season, Stephens pitched primarily for the Staten Island Yankees (New York-Penn). He went 4-1 with a 1.88 ERA in nine games (seven starts). Stephens also made two starts for the Gulf Coast League Yankees. He was 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA. Stephens was originally selected in the sixth round of the 2003 draft.
Ibarra had a .273 BA in 13 games for Trenton, with one home run and four RBI. He hit in 10 of the 13 games for Trenton. He also has split time this season between Charleston (Low-A) and Staten Island. Ibarra started the season with the River Dogs and had a .198 BA in 27 G with one home run and 13 RBI. In 12 games for Staten Island, he has hit .224 with two home runs and six RBI. Last season, he split the season between Tampa (High-A) and the Gulf Coast League Yankees. He hit .179 in 10 games for Tampa. He had a .205 BA in 16 G for the Gulf Coast League Yankees with four RBI. He was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Yankees on 8/23/05.
Trenton returns to Waterfront Park on Thursday night to start a five-game series against the Akron Aeros, the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians.
