Portland Sea Dogs News Release

(Norwich, CT)- In what was supposed to be a suspended-game doubleheader Thursday night turned into a one-game affair between the Sea Dogs and Defenders. Connecticut won that game, 7-2, in the completion of a suspended game from July 23rd at Hadlock Field. Game 2 was suspended in progress in the bottom of the 4th inning.

In the suspended game, the Dogs resumed the game as the home team, batting in the bottom of the 4th inning. Mickey came to the plate with the bases loaded but ground out to first base against pitcher Paul Oseguera. That ended the fourth inning which began July 23rd at Hadlock. The Dogs scored two runs at home but could only get two when things resumed in Connecticut.

The Defenders, meanwhile, slowly but surely got to Daniel Haigwood. They put two on in the sixth inning before scoring the go-ahead rally in the seventh. IN that frame, Ryan Rholinger led off with a double. He would score the tying run on David Maroul's second RBI single of the game to make it 2-2.

After an error moved Maroul to second base, Richardson singled to advance Maroul to third base. Kyle Haines then drove in Maroul with a sacrifice fly to right field to give Connecticut a 3-2 lead. A triple by Olmo Rosario and another Sac Fly from Carlos Sosa would give the Defenders a 4-run innings and a 5-2 lead.

Connecticut would score two more in the 9th against Miguel Asencio. Pablo Sandoval had a bases-loaded infield single to score Haines. Rosario would score from third base on a wild pitch by Asencio to cap the scoring.

Oseguera (2-2) earned the win, working 3.1 scoreless innings. He allowed just one hit but walked three in earning the victory. Jason Waddell earned his first save of the season retiring all six batters he faced in the eighth and ninth.

In the night cap, Connecticut was batting with one down in the last of the fourth inning when the game was suspended. Johnson had thrown 3.1 scoreless innings, recording six of his ten outs on strikeouts. Connecticut's pitcher, Joey Martinez, threw four scoreless prior to the suspension.
