August 7, 2008 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Binghamton, NY- The Toronto Blue Jays, parent club of the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, today transferred outfielder Travis Snider to the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs and transferred first baseman Brian Dopirak to the Fisher Cats from the Advanced-A Dunedin Blue Jays.

Snider, 20, batted .262 with a team-leading 17 home runs and 67 RBI in 98 games for the Fisher Cats. His 65 runs ranked fifth in the Eastern League. Snider, rated the Toronto Blue Jays' number-one prospect by Baseball America entering the season, became the youngest player in Fisher Cats' history when he was promoted from Advanced-A Dunedin on April 21. The Everett, WA native belted eight home runs in May, one shy of the franchise record, and reached base safely in a team-best 21 consecutive games between June 2 and June 27, including a Fisher Cats' season-high 14-game hitting streak from June 5-21.

Snider, the Blue Jays' first round draft pick in 2006, was named an Eastern League All-Star. At the Northeast Delta Dental Eastern League All-Star Game in Manchester on July 16, he delighted a Merchantsauto.com Stadium-record crowd of 8,762 by defeating Bowie Baysox outfielder Lou Montanez in an awe-inspiring final-round performance at the Irving Oil Home Run Derby. Dopirak, 24, put up impressive numbers in Dunedin, batting .308 with 27 HR and 88 RBI in 106 games. The Tampa, FL native was the Florida State League co-leader in home runs and led the FSL outright in RBI, runs (77), SLG (.577), and extra-base hits (54) at the time of his promotion. Dopirak, originally a Chicago Cubs' second-round draft pick in 2002 out of Dunedin (FL) High School, also ranked in the FSL top five in the following categories: AVG (.308/3rd), hits (126/2nd) and OBP (.382/T-4th).

Dopirak is scheduled to join the Fisher Cats tonight when they open a four-game series against the Binghamton Mets at NYSEG Stadium. Game time is 7:05pm. Radio coverage begins at 6:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Mike Murphy.

The Fisher Cats return to Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Tuesday night, August 12, at 6:05pm with a doubleheader against the Harrisburg Senators, Double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals. The first 1,000 kids in attendance receive a FREE Elliot Hospital Pediatrics Fisher Cats Backpack. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
