New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Binghamton, NY- Jacob Butler smacked a two-run single in the top of the eighth inning to break up a shutout, and Eric Nielsen went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored, but the Binghamton Mets still took the opener of a four-game series, 8-2, Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium.
Binghamton (63-57) got on the board first with two unearned runs in the bottom of the third inning against Brad Mills. Jonathan Malo (1-for-3, BB, 2 R) singled, Anderson Machado (1-for-2, HR, 2 BB, RBI, 3 R) walked and Malo scored when Fisher Cats' second baseman Chris Gutierrez committed a fielding error on a hot shot to second base off the bat of Jose Coronado (1-for-5, 2B, R). After Mike Carp (2-for-3, HR, 2B, 2 BB, 3 RBI, R) walked to load the bases, Mills committed a throwing error at home plate, allowing Machado to score for a 2-0 Mets' lead.
The Mets scored four more unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Josh Petersen (1-for-4, R) singled and Malo walked before third baseman Andrew Pinckney's fielding error prolonged the inning, allowing Petersen to score. Carp followed with a three-run home run, his 14th, off Mills that gave Binghamton a 6-0 lead.
Mills (1-1) allowed six runs -all unearned- in 3.2 innings to suffer his first Eastern League defeat. The left-hander yielded four hits, walked four and fanned three.

Jose Sanchez (11-6) scattered four hits and struck out a Mets' season-high 11 batters over seven scoreless innings for the victory. The right-hander walked two.
New Hampshire (51-68) avoided the shutout in the top of the eighth inning when they loaded the bases off reliever Elvys Quezada, and Butler lined a two-run single to left field, scoring Nielsen and David Smith (0-for-3, HBP, R), cutting the Mets' lead to 7-2.
Machado responded in the bottom of the eighth inning with a leadoff home run, his first, off Daryl Harang.
